Bovine collagen type I + III (calf skin atelocollagen), 10 mg
Roughly equal mixture of type I and type III collagen purified from calf skin by pepsin solubilisation and salt fractionation, lyophilised salt-free. The natural I/III ratio of young dermis makes it a representative skin-collagen substrate for coating culture plastic, a bovine collagen standard for ELISA and Western blotting, and an antigen for raising or testing anti-collagen antibodies. Not recommended for 3D gel formation — for gels see the sterile atelocollagens cat. 437 (type I) and cat. 576 (type III).
Source
Bovine (calf) skin. Collagen was extracted from washed dissected tissue into dilute acetic acid after pepsin treatment. Collagen type I and III was purified by using differential salt precipitation
Purity
Bovine collagen type I 45%, bovine collagen type III 45%, bovine collagen other types <10%, non-collagen proteins <0.5%
Format
Lyophilized, salt-free
Purification
Partial pepsin digestion in acidic conditions and differential salt precipitation
Applications
Coating material for cell culture studies. May not be suitable for 3-D gel formation
Reconstitution
Use 0.5 M acetic acid, pH 2.5. Dissolved collagen retains immunologic properties of native collagen. Structure of native collagen confirmed by ability to form microfibrils
Storage
Shipping at ambient temperature. Storage of lyophilized protein 2 years at -20°C. Storage of reconstituted protein 1 month at +4°C. Do not freeze reconstituted collagen
