Streptavidin, native from Streptomyces avidinii, lyophilised 5 mg – biotin-binding protein for coating and detection
Tetrameric streptavidin (53 kDa) purified from culture of Streptomyces avidinii by ion-exchange chromatography on CM-cellulose and affinity chromatography on iminobiotin-Sepharose. Non-glycosylated and with a near-neutral isoelectric point, streptavidin gives lower non-specific background than egg-white avidin while keeping the same femtomolar affinity for biotin. Supplied lyophilised, 5 mg per vial, for coating ELISA microplates and beads, preparing immunosorbents and capturing or detecting biotinylated antibodies, proteins and nucleic acids in ELISA, dot blot, Western blotting and immunohistochemistry.
